Met up with Tim, a senior I hadn't seen in half a year, along with Lman, Yujia, and CC, a Cheng Kung EE alumnus from a venture capital firm under China Steel, whom I met for the first time. As the one often tasked with finding spots, I chose this hidden bar that operates by invitation only and requires a password to enter, which Jimmy had taken me to before. We were seated in a private room inside. Besides me, the group included angel investors, venture capitalists, an AI entrepreneur, and a senior executive from a foreign company... plus Tim, who's a Harvard alum...

Met Micky, who previously worked at Ogilvy and has lived in 7 countries; he now runs an ad agency with friends. Also met Kuikui, who spent six years in Australia and then opened a B&B in Kenting. Plus Coco who stopped by briefly, Micky's cousin, and got to know the wine specialist at this shop...

Started the day with a remote meeting with Eugene, founder of Blue Rabbit .AI. Eugene grew up in the US, is Taiwanese-American, and now lives in Hong Kong. After the meeting, Giga messaged me because I had made a small investment in their project (ARBOT), an AI-powered new coin rating system, which has since tripled in price. After the afternoon market close and settling the February Taiwan index futures, I finished some regular reports and headed out to a meeting at Dingheng.

Taipei Mandarin Oriental Hotel 5F Tajimaya Premium Shabu Shabu $$$$
Only upon visiting today did I learn that this place operates independently from Tajimaya. Tajimaya is a century-old Japanese meat supplier with many dedicated restaurants in Taiwan, while Tajimaya Jia is its importer in Taiwan, mainly represented by this restaurant at Mandarin Oriental and its second branch. Regardless, Tajimaya Jia remains one of Taipei's top-tier shabu-shabu spots—on a Monday night, only seats after 7:30 PM were available. With drinks, per-person spending starts around NT$3,000+. The American red wine Skyside paired with the meal tonight was okay. Each table is a private dining space...

Da An No. 9 Hot Pot & Japanese Cuisine in Lane 27, Ren'ai Road, Taipei. This place aims to compete with the high-end shabu-shabu restaurant 'Orange' next door, and it's indeed not cheap either. After opening three bottles of French wine, the bill for three people came to NT$18,000—NT$6,000 per person. However, some ingredients or cooking methods are quite unique: imported Hokkaido conch aged over 10 years (NT$4,380), deep-fried sea urchin wrapped in nori, lucky gold sushi wrapped in gold leaf, US Prime black beef, and ice cream topped with fried sea urchin salt... Manager Liang, true to form, was humorous and charming, eventually attracting the owner Lisa and L...
